Mercator Nieuw takes inspiration from the original 1958 cut of Mercator by Dutch typographer Dick Dooijes. Created against the backdrop of my personal journey into Dutch citizenship.

It builds upon the original cut of Mercator, adding a broader diacritic range and lange ij ligature for Dutch language usage.
Built as a 2 axes variable font it allows flexibility for modern use in digital application in 8 weights and italics. Extreme Light and Heavy weights have been expanded upon to offer an extended range in usage options.
